to our guests. When you have a party you should always give your guests a little something to take home with them. For Ava's 2nd birthday we made a lot of sacrifices to pass along a very special gift... the flu. Yes, you read that right, we gave our guests the flu. Ava and I both picked up our gift the weekend before her big party and I can assure you it is the most sick I have every been and certainly the most sick she has ever been. It is a gift that comes not only with throwing up, but terrible diarrhea and often both at the same time. I'm sorry if that is more information than you were wanting to know, but I think it is only fair for our guests to know exactly what they are about to experience. If you have not received your gift yet, I assure you that it is on the way. It is a highly contagious gift and unfortunately for the family you spent time with on Mother's day (the day after Ava's party) you didn't even know you had it as you spread it along to your sweet mother on the day you celebrated her existence. Ah yes, it is the gift that keeps on giving. You also probably gave the gift to all of your coworkers right before you told your boss you were going home sick to start a 6-12 hour vacation in your bathroom followed by a 24 hour partial coma under your covers.
I can only begin to tell you how sorry I am that we gave this to all of you (the total is at 10 I believe). We are not certain if it was left over from our weekend before or if my mom may have brought it from Kentucky (a lady she worked with had it). But either way, we are SO sorry. Unfortunately you will feel how sorry we are when all of your friends and family are at home with it.
It is safe to say we will never forget Ava's 2nd birthday. I will not forget mine either. Side note to this blog...
At the end of my birthday and mother's day, Ava had gone to bed and my mom and Eric were quarantined in our guest bedroom with the flu. I was sitting on the couch in my pajamas working on the laptop trying to finish up some last minute master's assignments when suddenly my husband is standing in front of me. He is holding a bowl with a piece of my favorite Coldstone Creamery ice cream cake in it when he breaks out in song...
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you,
happy birthday dear lugga,
happy birthday to you.
It sounds silly, but tears rolled down my cheeks. There is no party, cake, balloons, presents, or guests that could compare to the sweetness of that moment. He did it with no ulterior motive, just the gentleness of his heart. I will remember it forever. Thank you lugga.

Oh, man. Where to begin....yes the gift of the flu was not much fun, but we wouldn't have missed that party for the world. So, it was definately worth it. Thank you so much for inviting Scott and I to Miss Ava's party. We had such a great time hanging with all of her friends and family. Even if the cost was a small flu bug. I don't think you'll ever know how truly grateful we are that you gave us a niece to love and spoil :)
On a side note, how wonderful your husband is. I got the chills thinking about how the gifts that come in small packages truly are the best ones.
I would rather have returned to gift but I wouldn't have missed the birthday bash. I am just so sorry that I spoiled your 29th birthday and Mother's Day. I promise we will celebrate the 30th with something other than the flu! We love you all.
Love, Mimi & Papa
oh good grief...bawling over here. Love you and that precious husband of yours. Well done Greg-o. well done.
After reading that post I am even more grateful than ever that somehow we were spared the plague. Especially since we basically lived on top of each other for two days. :) Glad you're feeling better.
love you so much.
Kristin,
You are too sweet sister. We love you so much and I am so grateful that Ava will have you as an aunt and uncle. I truly look forward to some day being able to say the same thank you to you. I know the journey feels long and tiresome, but I am certain God is going to bless the two of you.
Mom,
I really am sorry it was such a miserable weekend for you. We will make up for it with tons of fun when we visit!
Love you!
Megs,
I cannot tell you how glad I am that you all were spared... it was UGLY! I think we have finally stopped passing it along and my house has been bleached and disinfected like never before!
